IDL 8.2.3 is scheduled to be released on May 21. To follow up on the discussion post-IDL 8.2.2, I have a list of the new routines that will be included in this release:

along with a gratuitous BUBBLEPLOT screenshot.

I'm really enthusiastic about the new video input routines. Will they be able to acquire frames from video cameras as well as video files?

Does the QUERY capability for video sources provide information on image compression? Lossy compression can pose problems for quantitative analysis. Being able to check is useful, therefore.

Many thanks,

David

Hi David,

I don't want to curb your enthusiasm, but IDLffVideoRead doesn't have an API for either of these. I'll check into querying the compression type/level, though, since this seems like something we could expose from FFmpeg.

I can reproduce this. (arrgh, we just worked out another svn bug yesterday.) I'll see that this gets into the backlog for IDL 8.3.

I'm probably too late but it there a chance for following SVN bug to be
solved in 8.3?

The bug is strange, and is reproducible on Windows and Linux.

1. Install SVN on a fresh IDL workbench
2. Checkout any project from SVN as a new project in the workspace (the
coyote lib for example)
3. Right-click on the new project in the explorer: there is no IDL
project properties tab! (this tab is useful because one has to check the
box "update IDL path when project is opened or closed")

Workaround is: open any file in the project, modify it and save it. Then
the tab appears!!!

I swear I am not crazy, this bug happens to everybody in my institute,
and made some people loose quite a lot of time.

Thanks,

Fab

Apparently, the need for a Bubbleplot has become urgent. ;-)

Cheers,

I've learned my lesson: I'll now put confidence intervals around any release date I announce.

Mark,
I thought that was a gutsy early announcement. You certainly got my hopes up! :-)

OK, maybe not quite so soon: we had a last-minute issue with ENVI LiDAR, and because we want to release all the products built on IDL simultaneously, we're delaying the release. We don't have a date yet, but next week appears likely.

I knew it, you just needed a reminder that 8.2.3 hadn't been released yet. Got all my downloads for my PU license. 3.5 gigs in 15 minutes; impressive throughput given that I was probably not the only one downloading.
