Just installed. Bubbleplot is fun to play with. But I don't really need it for now. The sad part is that lots of my video output code is broken. Especially those google ".webm" format. I suppose you should not expect these silent changes in the what's new section. I guess I will have to roll back to 8.2.2 for some time.
cheers,
bp

OK, found a fix to this codec mess. Just follow the instruction of "Replacing the FFmpeg Version" in the document. The instruction is a bit outdated in terms of version numbers. You need to download ffmpeg-1.2-win64-shared.7z from http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com. Back up the original dlls (avcodec-54.dll
avformat-54.dll avutil-52.dll swscale-2.dll), replace them with the ones from the downloaded ffmpeg-1.2. Boom, we are good now. And enjoy the bubbleplot!
Cheers,
bp

No go. It just drops me right back into a login screen. No errors. No download either.
This is true for both Chrome and Firefox.
All the best,

... but the download page works with Safari on the same computer. Strange.
But at least I've got my update.

All I get when I try to login is "You are not currently authorized to
login to this site.", regardless of the password I use. It seems that
every time I try to download IDL there is a problem like this.

Hi David,
I looked into this a bit further taking a look at the gzip command options in Linux and it would seem that IDL is doing the compression in a similar way as having set the -n option.
-n --no-name
When compressing, do not save the original file name and time stamp by default. (The original name is always saved if the name had to be truncated.) When decompressing, do not restore the original file name if present (remove only the gzip suffix from the compressed file name) and do not restore the original time stamp if present (copy it from the compressed file). This option is the default when decompressing.
However it seems to me that it would be good to have an option to save the original name. In fact you would think that would be the default to save the original to be consistent with how the file_zip routine works and have the option to not save the original name.

Just to chime in, Mark's explanation is correct. By default, you shouldn't need to use the second argument. It's just like on Unix, when you do "gzip file", you don't normally supply the output filename. The second argument is really only there if you need to write the file to a different directory, or if you *insist* on giving the gzip file a new name (which will then carry over to the uncompressed file name).
But just to be safe, I'll add a note to the documentation explaining this behavior.
Cheers,
Chris
