Hello group,
Is it possible to have working installations of IDL 4 and IDL 5 at the same
time. Is it neccessary? ie does IDL 4 code work with IDL 5.
Sorry if this is a FAQ
Thanks for the help, Troy

We are able to run both versions here (Solaris 2.5), but unlike
the letter which accompanies your CD-ROM disk indicates, version 5
*will* try to access the license manager if you have an old version
of IDL installed. One must unset LM_LICENSE_FILE *before* invoking
version 5, or one will be placed in 7 minute demo mode!
We have had compatibility problems with map_set because of a bug
in specifying lon>180, but that will be fixed in the final release.
Otherwise I think you should do fine with version 5. For the kind
of programming I do version 5 isn't such a major release, but for
others it may address problems they have been having with version 4.01b.
