I just did a quick check of the docs, and it doesn't explicitly say
that you can do this (please correct me if I'm wrong). It does say
that you can use the COLORS=-5 keyword to the WINDOW routine.
In any case, I believe that this DOES work in the .Xdefaults file.
We have this entry in our /usr/openwin/lib/Xdefaults file (Solaris 2.X):
Idl*visual: PseudoColor
Idl*colors: -5
that works for IDL versions 4.0.1 and 5.0B5 . Worth a try?
