1. Is there a way to turn off the tickmarks on the top and right side of a
plot?

2. All tick labels on the abscissa (x-axis) are horizontal centered on the
tick marks. Tick labels on the ordinate (y-axis) are vertically centered
on the tick marks, except for the bottom label, which is bottom aligned,
and the top label, which is top aligned. This does not look particularly
good. Is this a bug or a feature?
