Hi Folks,
I posted a couple of programs on my web page a week
or so ago that were meant to demonstrate how to write
an IDL program that could work equally well on 24-bit
and 8-bit displays. In particular, I was interested
in the ability to change color tables and have the
colors immediately updated. The two programs are
PROCESS (the application) and XCOLORS (the color
table loading tool).
I tested these programs on my WindowsNT and Macintosh
computers, but I did not have access to UNIX machines.
Now I am getting strange reports from people who have
tried these programs on SGI machines, that the
programs only work under a 24-bit Direct Color visual
class, but not under a 24-bit True Color visual class.
Since this is exactly the *opposite* of what I expected,
I am wondering if anyone else has tried these programs
on other 24-bit UNIX systems and what their experience
has been. (If no one has used them, I guess I am also
looking for a volunteer! :-)
You can download the files via anonymous ftp like this:
ftp://ftp.frii.com/pub/dfanning/outgoing/examples/process.pr o
ftp://ftp.frii.com/pub/dfanning/outgoing/examples/xcolors.pr o
Many thanks for your help in getting to the bottom
of this mystery.
Cheers!
David
