Is there a way to limit the number of CPU cores used by IDL? I'm on a windows machine with 6 cores. When they're all occupied at 100%, it's pretty much impossible to switch to a browser, for example. I'm thinking that if I could reserve one CPU for other tasks, I could read the news while I wait... (or sometimes even be able to call up the task manager to kill the job!)

cheers,
Greg

IDL> cpu, tpool_nthreads=5

Thanks very much! I ought to have found that myself, but anyway it does just what I hoped. Maybe IDL will never freeze up my machine again - how wonderful is that?!

cheers,
Greg
