Folks,

Coyote and I are off today to hike the 500 miles from Denver to Durango
on the Colorado Trail. The last time we did this together disaster
struck (a given with Coyote, of course), and the "epiphany" I sought was
to write an IDL book. I'm hoping for better luck this time.

It's not clear how often I'll be able to post while on the hike, but I
am going to try to make occasional updates on my Rawah Ranger blog, if
some of you feel the need to live vicariously:

The trip is starting out auspiciously. Yesterday I nearly set the
kitchen on fire testing a stove, and the weather forecast for the next
several days is for 2-4 inches of rain and a flash flood watch in the
area where we start the journey, a most unusual forecast in Colorado.
I'm trying to do this with little or no planning, a basic requirement
for danger and adversity, the two most important elements in good
storytelling.

Coyote's pack weighs about 45 pounds, but from what I can tell, most of
the weight is in back issues of Playboy magazine. I'm not sure he will
make the entire length of the trail, although we should have plenty of
fire starting material. :-(

Cheers,

David

Have fun and safe travels David! [ but not so safe that it's boring. ]
