Job Title: Scientific Software Engineer

Position Summary:

Princeton Universities Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL) is one of the Department of Energy's National Science Labs. PPPL (http:://www.pppl.gov) is seeking a Software Engineer to support the NSTX-U fusion energy experiment by working on data acquisition, analysis and display. The candidate will work with engineering, physics, and IT staff to support plasma physics experiments. Linux, Windows, and MacOS computers are used in various control and diagnostic applications.

Essential Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, or a physical science is required. The successful candidate will have 3 or more years of experience developing software in a Linux, Windows, or MacOS environment.

Desirable Qualifications:

* A year or more writing software in IDL, Matlab, LabView, or Python.
* A year or more writing data visualization or image processing software.
* Experience developing GUIs and interactive web pages.
* Experience writing programs in C or C++.
* Experience in physical sciences and experimental environments.
* Familiarity with large data systems, such as MDSplus or EPICS.
* Knowledge of inter-process communications.
* An advanced degree in computing, science, or engineering.
* Experience with SQL databases.
* Good verbal and written communication skills.
