Joe Gurman found out what my problem was. When I use the code as shown in my
previous message, the button containing the pull-down menu is defined, but only
a portion of the button is actually active in Motif. The button appears on the
screen as 256 pixels wide in both OpenLook and Motif. In OpenLook the text
"Velocity Options" is centered, and the entire button is active. However, in
Motif the text is left justified, and only the left part of the button is
active, where the text is.

I was aware that I could have used XPDMENU or CW_PDMENU, but I wanted to find
out why what I was doing didn't work. Now I have a better feel for it.
