Everything is in the title.
The crash is immediate while using the Workbench.
When using the command line, IDL has time to confirm that no lambda fuction is defined...

Ouch... This hurts.
I can confirm the same behaviour on my 64bit Win7 machine with both 32 and 64 bit IDL versions.

Update to v8.4.1:

IDL> help,/lambda
Lambda Routines:
Number of routines: 0
IDL> print,!version
{ x86_64 Win32 Windows Microsoft Windows 8.4.1 Feb 17 2015 64 64}

Yep. Bug in 8.4. Fixed in 8.4.1.
