Hi there,

Our machines have recently been upgraded from HP-UX 10.10 to HP-UX 10.20
and
under HP-UX 10.10, IDL (version 4.0.1) responded to an integer overflow
(as
can for example be generated by the command i = fix(1.0e+10)) with a
nice message
saying:

% Program caused arithmetic error: Integer overflow
% Detected at $MAIN$

However, under HP-UX 10.20 the same command crashes IDL completely and I
get
thrown back to the Unix prompt after a bunch of error messages like:

( 0) 0xc1e19234 FTN_GETARITRAP + 0x1bc [/usr/lib/pa1.1/libcl.sl]
( 1) 0xc1e32550 U_CATCH_ARITHMETIC_TRAP + 0x9dc
[/usr/lib/pa1.1/libcl.sl]
( 2) 0xc01310b0 sigreturn [/lib/libc.sl]
( 3) 0xc2298a90 convert + 0x644
[/usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/bin.hp/libidl.sl]
( 4) 0xc227208c IDL_BasicTypeConversion + 0x104
[/usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/bin.hp/libidl.sl]
( 5) 0xc2272308 IDL_CvtFix + 0x14
[/usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/bin.hp/libidl.sl]
( 6) 0xc22698f0 interpreter + 0x4fc4
[/usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/bin.hp/libidl.sl]
( 7) 0xc2159358 IDL_Executive + 0xc4c
[/usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/bin.hp/libidl.sl]
( 8) 0xc224b98c IDL_Main + 0x80
[/usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/bin.hp/libidl.sl]
( 9) 0x0000733c main + 0x5dc [/usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/bin.hp/idl]
(10) 0xc0061d0c start + 0x8c [/lib/libc.sl]
(11) 0x000066b4 $START$ + 0x9c [/usr/local/rsi/idl/bin/bin.hp/idl]

Since we use a lot of programs which occasionally generate such integer
overflows
(without significantly affecting the outcome of the program under HP-UX
10.10),
this basically renders our system unuseable at the moment. Anyone
encounter this
problem before or knows a solution for it? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help,

-- Mario.
