Yes, it is possible. See IDL manual for an example and IDL has a directory of
examples where it all documented : $IDL_DIR/external/examples/ .
This directory contains 4 other directories and as I recall one of them contains a
code of how to call IDL routines from C, but I don't rememeber which one.
