We are considering purchasing PV-Wave as a data visualization and
modeling tool. I've been reading this group (and the FAQ!) to try to
get some background information.
I understand that PvWave and IDL diverged some years ago; but the FAQ
implies that they are still quite similar. I wonder if anyone could
compare them, strengths and weaknesses. I'm particularly interested in:
1. Available functions (eg PvWave has many of the IMSL functions builtin
-- does IDL provide similar?)
2. GUI building capabilities (eg Wave widgets and VDA -- what are
comparable IDL features and how do they compare.)
3. VDA has the GUI 'Navigator' interface, which is also extensible. Does
IDL have comparable capability?
4. Basic language differences, if any.
5. Cost and quality of support.
