Thanks! Creating an instance of the object first does resolve the issue. However, not all objects require me to create an instance first. E.g.

IDL> .full_reset
IDL> Resolve_All, CLASS='IDL_Container'
% Compiled module: RESOLVE_ALL.
% Resolved class structure: IDL_CONTAINER
% Identified method files: IDL_CONTAINER
IDL> Help, OUTPUT=output, /OBJECTS, /BRIEF
IDL> Print, output
IDL_CONTAINER IDL_OBJECT

This is true for both IDL and non-IDL objects.
