Does anyone have experience getting IDL to work under XWindows with
16bpp? I'm running Linux on Pentium with XFree86. When I put my X
server in 16 bit mode, xwininfo tells me:
Depth: 16
Visual Class: TrueColor
but when I start IDL and try to open a window I get:
% Unsupported X Windows visual (class: StaticGray, depth: 0).
Substituting default (class: <UndefinedVisual>, Depth: 0).

and can't get any type of window open. I don't understand why idl is
getting the visual class wrong. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,

JD
