In response to requests from our local customers, Research
Systems is pleased to announce the addition of an Advanced IDL
Programming course to the training schedule. The course
will be held at Research Systems training facility in Boulder,
CO, August 25 - 28 of 1997.

This course concentrates on advanced visualization and
programming techniques with an emphasis on the new object
graphics in 5.0. Six months of IDL experience or participation
in the Foundations for IDL Programming course is recommended
to get the most from this course.

IDL Object Graphics Workshop
- Using object methods
- Object Inheritance and Encapsulation
- Building an object graphics hierarchy
- View-Model Hierarchy - Container Objects
- Positioning objects in 3D space
- Adding light sources
- Using Color Models
- Rotating objects in 3D space

GUI Programming Tricks for Direct and Object Graphics
- Using IDL pointers to pass data
- Avoiding memory leaks
- Using IDL Draw Areas for Object Graphics
- Creating manageable interfaces
- Building resizeable graphics windows
