IMSL/IDL encapsulated postscript; DVIPS translation [message #993]

Hello all;

I'm trying to insert encapsulated postscript into a LaTeX document; the
IMSL/IDL package I'm using comes with the TeX document IMSLIDLPLOT_DVIPS.TEX
and I'm on a VS3100 running VMS5.5-2. The normal DVIPS translator we are
using is called DVIALW (Apple Laser Writer?).

Anyway, the translator spews forth entire pages of errors when it tries to turn
the .DVI file into a .DVI-ALW file; has anyone had any success doing this? I'm
not TeX literate enough yet to solve this problem; I suppose that Donald
Knuth is
very pleased with this one.
