The problem you are experiencing is due to multiple copies of the Helvetica
font 'FOND' resource in your Fonts folder. Specifically, another font has
bitmapped versions of Helvetica advertized in it's 'FOND' resource. This
'FOND' resource is being passed to IDL instead of the normal Helvetica one
which contains the TrueType versions of the font IDL is looking for.

We have experienced this problem here at RSI and are working on a fix for
future revisions of IDL. In our case the offending font was called
'Personal LaserWriter NT Fonts'. Removing this font Suitcase from the Fonts
folder in the System Folder fixed the problem; this has the added bonus of
restoring the TrueType versions of the affected fonts for better display.
