We had the same problem here after applying patch kit 6 to DU4.0b.
It is a problem with /usr/shlib/libc.so.
We resolved it by restoring the old libc to a ...idl/bin/bin.alpha,
which is part of the $LD_LIBRARY_PATH set in the idl-scripts.
