There is a program written in IDL called SEADAS which process satellite
images. You can chek for it at the following URL address:
http://seadas.gsfc.nasa.gov

This is what it says from the FAQ:
Can SeaDAS handle CZCS or AVHRR data ?

The current version of SeaDAS can only process SeaWiFS, OCTS and
CZCS data. SeaDAS can display (but not process) AVHRR SST data.
In the future, SeaDAS may include the capability to process AVHRR
data as well as other satellite image data (i.e. MODIS).
