Mike, give this a try:

(1) Download the procedures COLORS and COLORSET from
http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/~gumley/colortools.html

(2) Close any existing IDL sessions, then start a new IDL session and
type
colorset
colors

(3) Create a magenta on white plot with the command
plot, indgen(10), color=1, background=7

See the documentation for COLORS for the color assignments. If this does
not work, let me know.
