I'm running IDL (3.5.1) under OS2 2.1. In general it works well and is
compatible with
my unix procedures. I have, however, been getting a number of G.P.F.
(General Protection(?) Faults). My 486 also seems to freeze often when
I run MS-Kermit and IDL at teh same time but not, I think, when I
run OS2 Kermit. I've had a couple of other problems such as not
being able to use $DIR (I get a DOS window which closes immediately
the operation is complete but before I can assimilate the
information) and the screen not refreshing well when I'm running
a long job but I don't know if it is due to IDL or OS2.

The main problem I'm having is that the whole user interface is
rather jarring after using a program like Microsoft Word or doing
other things with the OS2 Workplace. In the primitive Unix world
(as far as user interfaces) IDL fits right in but if I weren't
tied to IDL, I would have searched hard for an alternative
before shelling out $750
for the PC version
