I've been using IDL on Windows for a while and had some problems with
version 3.1.2. Version 3.5.1 is now available and has taken care of the
bugs (I hope).

To get a working demo of IDL for Windows ver 3.5.1 , ftp to
gateway.rsinc.com,
log on as ftp,
send your address as password,
go to pub/idl/windows
and binary get all the files in the directory.
