sorry. I was a bad student at Davids course.
He told me not to use keyword_set to check if the
user has entered a keyword. But I forgot...

if keyword_set(hide) then o->setproperty, hide=hide

is obviously not the same as

if n_elements(hide) ne 0 then o->setproperty, hide=hide

Now "hide" works just as I thought it would.
