Here is the definitive answer. Unfortunately it requires a
certain amount of expertise.

The NOVAS code contains a subroutine called tpplan (FORTRAN
version) which calls a JPL subroutine which access the database
and computes the planet position as seen by an observer on the
earth.

Also, see the link to Jet Propulsion Laboratory DE405 planetary
ephemeris.

Of course this stuff is not in IDL. You might want to check out
some of the IDL astro sites. They might have something that
could be used directly.
