That happened (still does) when I take out my network card on my laptop.
The lmhostid gets it unique number from there. You pop out the card - no
lmhostid and IDL doesn't work. Neither does anything else that requires
the hostid (licensed compilers for e.g.).

If this is your problem then I hope you just have to stick your card
back in. If this is your problem and your card _is_ in, then maybe it is
not configured correctly for the OS upgrade.
