I repeated it on my sparcstation - it works, but yields:
IDL> result = randomu(seed, binomial=[3.8e7,.72])
% Program caused arithmetic error: Floating underflow
IDL> print, result
2.73603e+07
IDL> print, !version
{ sparc sunos unix 5.1 Apr 13 1998}
