Hi,
I am not sure about pv-wave, but IDL has a function called 'usersym'
that easily allows you to define your own symbols. Pretty much solves
the problem of not enough symbols (or good symbols)
In IDL if you place them via the plots command you can use thick and
size to control them some more.
