I think David has addressed this issue more than once. GUI builder (of
which I am deprived working on the Mac) seems to produce code that is
fairly difficult to reuse and adapt to real projects, especially if your
GUI is supposed to be interactive. It pays to write GUI yourself, and it
does not take a lot of time or practice.

P.S. And for the purpose of IDL-project management, does manully
changing extensions help?
