I think your main problem is that this program works
at all, anywhere. Using RETALL to negotiate a widget
program is one strange way to write a widget program!

But RETALL will get you all the way back to the
main program level (command line), which clearly
doesn't exist in a run-time environment. I think
I would be thinking about writing IDL programs in
more conventional ways. :-)
