Sounds like my linux laptop is set up like you want. It's an oldie (still has a PCMCIA network
card) so the hostid is derived from the network card. To keep IDL happily humming regardless of
whether I'm on the network or not, all I have to do is keep the card in.

Alternatively you may want to look into the "genver" style of licensing (don't know what the
correct terminology is). You call RSI (or their Swedish distributor), they ask a question, you
answer them and they give you a number which, when you type it in gives you totally network
free licensing. Last time I did this it was only good for 180 days though - at which point you
call RSI again and do it over (didn't cost anything). Sorta like an extended eval license.

Dunno if any of this will with windows tho'.
