I remember once working in a window manager in which the IDL plot
windows were prevented from getting the focus. The cause was some
setting somewhere in the window manager configuration. Sorry, I
cannot recall more details, but this definitely matches with the
behaviour your are describing. (although I would only have expected
this on 8-bit color)
Funny isn't it, this color behaviour of xloadct? It seems to be the only
way for widgets to handle color on 256-color hardware. No way of
seeing the color bar or the plots/images which your are trying to adjust
while adjusting the sliders.
