Hi Simon,
I've got IDL working on a Redhat 7.1 box (which, as far as I know,
isn't too distantly related to the Mandrake 8 distro) and the only
problems I've had are with X (yay!!) and setting paths. I think you
have to make sure the correct environment variables are set for IDL
(I'll be darned if I can remember them though).
If you are getting all sorts of X compatibility problems, I suggest
you get the latest XFree86 drivers (you can grab them off the aarnet
mirror at http://mirror.aarnet.edu.au/pub/XFree86/ - it should
download ludicrous speed* if you are connected at usyd). I suggest you
use the Xinstall.sh script (dead easy).
If none of this helps - what are the specific library problems? Any
specific error messages?
Cheers,
Bhautik
