IDL dcube file format [message #33777] Tue, 28 January 2003 14:36

Where might I be able to find information on the file format of IDL's
datacube (.dcb) files?

Where I am, we use FITS data files for most of our work. Others that we
are working with will occasionally give us dcube files, as that is what
they are using for their data processing/reduction. I know that there are
FITS I/O functions available for IDL, but we can't have everybody give us
files in one specific format.

I have written a short C function which can parse some dcube files. This
was done by painfully figuring out where some of the parameters are
stored, such as dimensions, and using the XDR functions provided by the C
library. This works some of the time, but there have been a few files
which it has been unable to correctly parse.

I haven't had any luck finding the file format online (there are too many
datacube subjects on the web) or in the IDL manuals/references. Do any of
you have the format or know where I can find it? Many thanks.
