If I were actually discussing a real beta program, I would most likely be
in violation of a non-disclosure agreement, so please bear in mind that
_everything_ I say in this message is hypothetical.
Let's suppose I was a beta tester for a hypothetical product called
Ineluctably Desirable Lingo (a product of Rastafarian Scholastics, Inc.,
of Badgag-by-the-Flatirons, Colorado). Let's further posit that I was
testing said product on the Magnificent OS Eggs, but that the EyeTules
Tootorials (as well as all the other Tootorials) were incompatible with
the Magificent OS Eggs. Let's get wild and crazy and say I called the
Teggs Upport at Rastafarian Scholsatics, Inc. and asked what I should do
if I wanted to learn enough about EyeTools that I could perform some
useful beta testing. I was told, and (hypothetically speaking) I quote,
"Get a Windoze machine and use that." Really (hypothetically).
Let's say I've been beta testing software for the Rastamen of Badgag for
ten or twelves years. Let's also say I don't have a stinkin' Windoze
security cesspit-from-hell and never will. What do you imagine my
(hypothetical) reaction would be?
I would thank the Upport person for his "help," deinstall the Lingo beta
from my Eggs machine, and just not think about it again. I might wonder
who was going to beta test the LIngo under those circumstances, but that
would be Somebody Else's Problem.
Now, continuing to speak hypothetically, I might assume that the OS Eggs
version of the EyeTules feature might lack a little robustness, as a
result of less than adequate testing, in such a case. I might even be
reluctant to spend development resources on applications using EyeTules,
at least until it had been through a few product cycles. No big deal for
me, though it might mean I wouldn't buy quite as many Lingo licenses as I
might have, were I (hypothetically) more enthused about the purportedly
neat, new feature. Too bad I would never have known how to use it, in this
hypothetical instance.
