Well, hard to say. I wanted to un-install the IDL 6.0 beta
before I did the official installation, but for some reason
the normal un-install process didn't work. (Although the
un-install wizard reported no errors and appeared to
finish normally. But nothing was un-installed.)

So I thought, "Well, sod that!" and I deleted all the
beta files manually and used Registry Medic to fix up
all the dangling references in the Registry.

Then I tried to do the installation (from files
I downloaded from the RSI web page, since my CD
has still not turned up). At the moment it goes
off to do the installation, the install wizard
reports an "Internal Error 2711. IDL Shortcuts".
This, followed immediately by "Error 1603. Fatal
error during installation."

I've spent a couple of hours trying various things
(including getting my IDL 5.6 installation hopelessly
tangled by making bad decisions in REGEDIT). I've got
all that sorted out now and IDL 5.6 is back to behaving
properly, but still no joy with IDL 6.0.

The same general approach worked perfectly on my
other Windows machine.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

David
