Yes, I just built a big application built this weekend which uses CALL_EXTERNAL
on SGI, IRIX5.2, native cc compiler. The instructions in
IDL_DIR/misc/dynamic_link worked fine. The important flags are:

cc -KPIC
ld -shared

I had no problems.
