Hey! I am sick and tired of all these IDL programming posts showing up
in my incestuous-necro-bestiality newsgroup!

While I am greatly amused by the subject lines of some of these
posts anyone have any great ideas on how to reduce the impact of
all these spam messages?

I was thinking that a couple of newsgroup rules would help in my
filtering efforts. Such as:
1) Messages that are cross posted will be filtered out
2) messages that contain a hyperlink will be filtered out.

Those rules would eliminate a lot of the spam, but could also
filter out real messages. In order for the newsgroup to usefully
have any rules, all posters must be aware of them.So I suggest putting
a line in the FAQ that states these rules, then newbies could read it
to find out why no-one answers their posts.

The hyperlink is probably a bad idea to filter out, since it has a legitimate use.
And it is often used in answer to a question. Perhaps the filter would not block
responses with hyperlink in it.

Another possible rule, put IDL in the subject line. i.e. "IDL: my colors don't work"

Just kicking around some ideas, any others?

And, is there an IDL FAQ, and does anyone keeping care of it?

Cheers,
