Yes it is. I think the best place to start is here:

And I'm sure Rick will have a better reply once he gets around to
reading your message.

I think that code is Windows only. Are you using OS X or Linux? If
yes then I think you want to find the /dev device that the joystick
is using and use the IDL SOCKET command to read it. However, I'm not
sure if this is possible, or if you would be able to decode the
device outputs...
