Thanks Karl, that did the trick. I guess I should have connected
XMANAGER/event processing to this issue but I didn't think that GUI
interface updates were handled similarly to IDL application events. I
thought it was an IDL internals/OS issue.

Actually, this will help me fix another nagging issue in another
application...
