The following is from a message I received the other day. It came indirectly
from RSI.
************************************************************ ******************
IDL for Linux will be priced the same as our Windows and Macintosh versions.
Because Linux is overwhelmingly used by professionals at home and by
students, we are also making available the IDL Home-Use Option (at a 66.6%
discount!) just for Linux users. To qualify you must:

1) Have access to IDL at work - contingent on being able to provide an
installation number.

-OR-

2) If you are a student, fax us a copy of your student ID and current
class schedule.

-AND-

3) Sign a letter of agreement that you will not use this license at work
or school; it will only be for your use at home on your own personal
computer. The license belongs to you and is non- transferable when
purchased at the Home-Use Option special price.

We have already had some very positive feedback from our IDL for Linux beta
testers. One has even said, "I have been really satisfied with the Linux
port to date. Running on our 90 MHz Pentium PCI machine we see IDL jobs
running at 65% of the speed of identical jobs on a Sparc20."
