Hi Mike,
I cannot comment on the original problem except for checking your
network connections - high latency and slow throughput with
full/half-duplex mixing are common problems.
A good solution for fast Windows connection to X is VNC, which is free.
The great thing about VNC is that the application doesn't need to wait
for the remote X server to redraw, since the X emulation is running on
your server. That way, only the display updates get sent accross your
network, rather than a myriad of X commands.
Another upside: It's free!
A "proper" X server that does the job reasonably well in my experience
is WinAxe. Haven't used that much in awhile, though.
