The values are not the pixel edges, this is one of the
first things I checked. But, I am wondering if it is
actually possible to *calculate* the pixel positions
from the GEOTIFF information embedded in the file.
Does anyone know how to do that?

Perhaps the information is embedded in the file and
I just don't know how to access it. (Maybe this is
what you mean by "AVHRR nadir resolution of 1.2 km".)

Cheers,

David
