Inter Process Communication with IDL [message #5417]

We're building a system, where IDL is used as visualization
server. Therefore we must be able to send visualization requests to
IDL. The problem we have, is that the system should run on Windows as
well as on Unix. I figured that the best way to communicate with
Windows would be DDE but that's not available with Unix. And RPC is
not available with Windows.

What is the best way to communicate that is available with Windows as
well as with Unix? Any experiences?
