If you grab the IDL demo version from RSI's anonymous ftp site, you will
find in the idl/lib/usrlib section several routines to read and write images of
many different formats (including write_gif.pro). Many require absolutely *no*
modification to run under PV-WAVE. Most modifications are trivial, for instance
the TVRD() procedure *requires* arguments in WAVE, but doesn't in IDL.
