Never mind... Did it with the tickFormat='(A1)' for the plot and
adding the "AXIS" procedure:
plot, [.....], XtickFormat='(A1)', YtickFormat='(A1)'
Axis, xAxis=0, xStyle=1, xr = xr, /save
