I have the same problem on MacOSX (but not linux!). IDL is now using the
Eclipse help system, which uses a small web server. In my case the
command to start the web server fails unless it is run with root/admin
privileges.

I have also seen reports of this problem from Eclipse users on
real unix, but haven't had time to track down the solution.
