The only IDL book I ever bought was David's IDL Programming Techniques. It
must be a great book because I never saw the need to buy another one. :-)
And I love the spiral binding. The book will stay open laying in front of
you without any paper weights.

Actaully, one correction: If you get into external programming, you will
want Ronn Kling's book Calling C from IDL.The basic books don't cover this
sort of stuff and Ronn gives great examples ready to use.
