Aspect Ratio vs X/Y Range [message #64973]

I'm wondering if the specification of the x/y ranges (along with the x/
y style keyword) interfere with the position=aspect keyword? Does
anybody know?
I'd like to specify the range for a close-up of an image but still
preserve the aspect ratio of the full (unzoomed) image.
